Why is Salesforce buying Braze?

THE SHORT ANSWER

To get the real-time, event-streaming layer Marketing Cloud never built. Salesforce announced on October 20, 2026 that it will buy Braze for about $5.66 billion in enterprise value, $47.50 a share in cash. Marketing Cloud grew out of ExactTarget and is built on the send: define an audience, push a message. Braze is built on the signal: it updates the profile and adjusts the journey as behavior arrives. Marketing Cloud is already a portfolio of acquisitions from Radian6 to Evergage, so the integration will be brutal. But Braze is the missing piece that closes the loop between Data 360, which knows who the customer is, and Agentforce, which acts. If Salesforce makes Braze the real-time core instead of one more studio, the price will look cheap.

Salesforce isn't buying a messaging tool. It already has one. It's buying a different default: a signal-first architecture under a send-first product, and fresher context for its agents.

The full argument, including what the integration looks like from the platform team that stitched Marketing Cloud's earlier acquisitions to Salesforce CRM, is in Salesforce Just Bought the Signal. Why the live behavioral record matters more than written context is in Context Is King. Written Context Is Rented.
