Should Anthropic buy Salesforce or keep partnering?

THE SHORT ANSWER

Keep partnering. The deal would cost about $275 billion in enterprise value (a 30% premium on roughly $190 billion of equity plus about $28 billion of net debt), nearly two thirds of the revenue is seat-based application subscriptions growing 8% or less that agents compress, and the two assets worth owning, Slack and the headless harness of Agentforce, Data 360, and Informatica, already give Claude the default slot under Claudeforce. Owning Service Cloud would put Anthropic in competition with Sierra, Decagon, and every other service-agent company buying its tokens, and Salesforce already holds an Anthropic stake Marc Benioff plans to sell. The scorecard mistake is scoring the combination; score ownership minus the best partnership, asset by asset, and the column is small for everything except Slack, which is not for sale.
