Own the margin too
Insight to prototype to launch to gross margin to the outcome after the signature.
The other five skills are what a Product Builder does. This one is how you hold them together.
For most of the history of the job, PMs lived in a slice: discovery or delivery, feature or pricing. AI compressed the cycle enough that the slice doesn't hold anymore. The people defining the role close the whole loop themselves.
That includes the parts that used to belong to finance. For AI products, cost per request decides whether a feature is viable at all. Work out the unit economics before engineering commits, and defend the price in the same review as the launch plan. If you don't, someone else does it badly.
Hand off on purpose, not by default. Distribution eventually moves to go-to-market. Customer proximity stays yours. The default, where everything belongs to someone else after launch, is how ownership fragments.
Today
Work out the cost to serve one request of your AI feature, and whether today's price covers it at ten times the volume.
Done when: You can say the number out loud in a pricing review and show the math.
